Dr. Emilio Ramirez’s Pivotal Role
San Miguel de Allende’s medical scene is dynamic, and Dr. Emilio Ramirez plays a crucial role in shaping its quality. Be Well members and clients recognize his expertise in managing everything from acute trauma and critical care to ER and ICU oversight. Board-certified in both critical care and emergency medicine, Dr. Ramirez has served as Chief of Medicine at several San Miguel hospitals, significantly elevating local healthcare standards. He has recruited top specialists from across Mexico, building a team that has delivered unprecedented care for this region. For nearly a decade, his leadership and collaboration with clinicians, nurses, and administrators have ensured reliable, high-quality care for tourists, expats, and Mexicans alike.
For the time being, Dr. Ramirez will shift the focus of his care in SMA to direct patient care, reducing his administrative hospital management responsibilities. He will continue seeing patients at Joya Hospital and is finalizing arrangements for consultation space at MAC Hospital. He will also be affiliated with a new hospital opening in San Miguel within the next few months. His extensive experience, spanning over 28 years in both public (including IMSS as Chairman of Emergency Services) and private sectors (such as Amerimed), makes him a valuable asset to the community.
Having worked in patient advocacy in San Miguel for nine years, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of Dr. Ramirez’s contributions. Since joining Be Well in 2017, he has been instrumental to our advocacy and concierge services. Hospitals, both here and in the US, frequently experience changes in mission, values, and leadership. Recently, Joya Hospital underwent a significant shift, resulting in Dr. Ramirez stepping down as Chief of Medicine. However, he will continue to see patients at Joya and soon have similar privileges at MAC Hospital.
These frequent leadership changes make it challenging for patients to determine which facility best meets their needs. Several key criteria should be considered when evaluating any hospital.
Essential Criteria for Hospital Selection
When hospitalization or emergency care is needed, the quality of care becomes paramount. Leadership changes often have the most significant impact on quality of care . Our team at Be Well stays informed about where the highest standards of care are consistently provided. Dr. Ramirez’s partnership is invaluable in helping us guide our members toward the best possible care.
